How Could Madoff Do What He Did?
February 27th, 2009 categories: Real Estate News
I am sure people wonder how such a powerful and well-respected Wall Street figure, such as financier Bernard L. Madoff, could do what he did to so many people and I wonder the same thing. I personally know people who have been affected by this terrible crime and its impossible for me to ignore.
I found the below article, which states that many people suspect he didn’t commit this scheme alone. If you are interested in discussing this topic more, please feel free to contact me at: kathy@kathyvilla.com

Are You A First-Time Home Buyer? If So, I’ve Got Great News!
February 25th, 2009 categories: Buyers
Yesterday in our office meeting, our Mortgage Broker, Steve Kenilvort, discussed some very exciting news for first-time buyers!
In 2008, Congress enacted a $7500 tax credit designed to be an incentive for first-time home-buyers to purchase a home. The credit was designed as a mechanism to decrease the over-supply of homes for sale.
For 2009, Congress has increased the credit to $8000 and made several additional improvements. This revised $8000 tax credit applies to purchases on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
If you would like more information regarding this tax credit, please feel free to contact me at Kathy@kathyvilla.com and I will be more than happy to send you information.

Real Estate Outlook
February 17th, 2009 categories: Buyers
Is the bottom is sight? I found this great article on RealtyTimes.com that discusses what is going on in the economy.
“It’s obviously good news that doom and gloom economists like Zandi and the Wall Street Journal are picking up on what’s happening in local real estate markets. More important for the larger market, though, is that they are in the position to spread the word to consumers that it’s now not simply a “good time to buy,” it’s also a safe time to buy”

I am going to this amazing charity that I wanted to share with my readers. Its called Handle With Care.
On March 1, 2009, Cedars-Sinai will sponsor the 2nd annual ‘Handle With Care’ event — this time benefiting a group closer to home. The Los Angeles Christian Health Centers (LACHC), formerly known as the Los Angeles Mission Community Clinic, is located in downtown Los Angeles on Skid Row. LACHC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with a designation as a Health Care for the Homeless Program.

Best Home Improvements
February 6th, 2009 categories: Home Improvements and Design
I found this great article in the LA TIMES called Best Home Improvements To Make In A Recession and thought I’d share with my readers.
In a recession, there’s nothing better than padding your wallet whenever you can, so reducing energy costs makes natural sense. A serious commitment to this idea does have significant upfront costs, but it can save thousands in the long run.
This article gives some great tips for saving from Window Treatments to Roofs to Heating Systems. I know it seems expensive in the beginning, but in the long run, you’ll save yourself a bundle!
If you have any further questions on going green or saving money on home Improvements, please email me.
